The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.81.6

अधस्त्वपानरूपैव मध्ये सौम्यैव सर्वदा ।
पुष्टाप्युदानरूपैव पुंसः स्वस्यैव तिष्ठति ॥ ६ ॥

adhastvapānarūpaiva madhye saumyaiva sarvadā |
puṣṭāpyudānarūpaiva puṃsaḥ svasyaiva tiṣṭhati || 6 ||

The apana wind passing downward evacuates the bowels, but the samana wind of the abdominal part serves to sustain the body; and the udana rising upward and being let out, inflates and invigorates the frame.
