Verse 3.9.42
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.9.42:
आविश्येवानुसन्धत्ते यथा गतिमतां गतीः ।
वायुस्तथैव कालात्मा विधत्ते क्रमरूपताम् ॥ ४२ ॥āviśyevānusandhatte yathā gatimatāṃ gatīḥ |
vāyustathaiva kālātmā vidhatte kramarūpatām || 42 ||42. Just as the force called ‘Air’ (vāyu) after having entered, as it were (the joints of the body) regulates the function (gatiḥ) of all organs (gatimatām), in the same way, Time brings about sequence in things.
Commentary
[Just as the air called Prāṇa enters as it were the joints of the body and regulates movements like coming and going, in the same way, Time, by means of its two functions namely, prevention and permission brings about sequence.]
