The Garga-samhita Verse 4.14.23, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 4 of Chapter 14 (The Story of the Jalandharis) of Canto 4 (madhurya-khanda).

बाणान्धकारे सञ्जाते
कंसो नीत्वा महा-गदम्
विवेश कुरु-सेनासु

bāṇāndhakāre sañjāte
kaṃso nītvā mahā-gadam
viveśa kuru-senāsu

वने वैश्वानरो यथा

vane vaiśvānaro yathā

bāṇaof arrows; andhakāre—blinding darkness; sañjāte—manifested; kaṃsaḥKaṃsa; nītvā—bringing; mahā-gadamgreat club; viveśa—entered; kuru-senāsu—the Kuru armies; vane—in the forest; vaiśvānaraḥ—fire; yathā—as.

English translation of verse 4.14.23:

The sky became dark with a great shower of arrows. Then, as a fire enters a forest, so Kaṃsa, armed with a great club, penetrated the Kuru army.
