1) One who constantly performs sacrifices, a liberal householder; भूमिं वृत्तिकरीं दत्त्वा सत्री भवति मानवः (bhūmiṃ vṛttikarīṃ dattvā satrī bhavati mānavaḥ) Mahābhārata (Bombay) 13.62.29; अत्यशेरत परस्परं धियः सत्त्रिणां नरपतेश्च संपदः (atyaśerata parasparaṃ dhiyaḥ sattriṇāṃ narapateśca saṃpadaḥ) Śiśupālavadha 14.32.
2) A priest superintending or performing a sacrifice; Bhāgavata 4.14.7.
3) A class-mate, disciple; तदस्य गूढाः सत्त्रिणश्च संवादयेयुः (tadasya gūḍhāḥ sattriṇaśca saṃvādayeyuḥ) Kau. A.1.11; स सत्रिभिः शपथपूर्वम् एकैकममात्यम् उपजापयेत् (sa satribhiḥ śapathapūrvam ekaikamamātyam upajāpayet) Kau. A.1.1.
4) An ambassador or agent in a foreign country.
