Alaka in his commentary on Ratnakara s Haravijaya, quotes Kohala on the rasakanka (rasaka) as a kind of play. Rasaka is in the kaishiki style. It employs all the arts like music and dance in it. Harivamsha mentions chalikya and Bhamaha mentions dvipadi along with rasaka. The early definitions of rasaka suggests that it was not meant for mere recitation or reading, but was composed with a view of being sung and danced. It must have been originally a piece of folk dance and music....
