Sridhara of Suresvara family inscription (Thiruvalathur)

One Sreedhara of Suresvara family renovated the Devi temple which had been burnt down.

This is inscribed on the south wall of the Bhagavati temple, Tiruvalathur [Thiruvalathur], Palakkad:—

śrīdharāmṛtakarmaśrī
śrīsureśvarānvayodbhavaḥ
vahni dagdhaṃ pūraṃ devyāḥ

It is notable that all the Sanskrit stone inscriptions of Kerala are found in temples. Most of them contain facts related to the temples, such as renovation of certain portions installing the flag staff, altar, dome of the temple etc. Gifts to the temples are also mentioned in certain inscriptions. Priests, kings, nobles and such other important personalities are exclusively referred to in the inscriptions. The temple having Sanskrit inscriptions are mostly dedicated to lord Siva and Visnu. Among them Siva temples are larger a number than Visnu temples. Most of these temples are situated in the earst while Tiruvitamkur [Thiruvithamkoor] region[2].
