What magic beauty’s masque and dance
Has wakened earth!–what fires entrance
From far the sable shadows-like a rain of Paradise ‘blooms’
Dream-fragrance with their dust of gold on the black-hearted glooms!
Kissing the lotus under Thy feet, drinking its nectar-ooze
Our grey and miry-misted world grows irised with rich hues!
Whose marvellous light makes new and young
The sun and stars–in torrents flung:
Its gleamings trace an arabesque on the sky-intoxicate cloud:
Earth’s jewel-heart reveals her glad authentic flame love-proud.
Kissing the lotus under Thy feet, drinking its nectar-ooze
Our grey and miry-misted world grows irised with rich hues!
O Life, from life delivered, free!
Immortal in mortality!
World-charmer!–in whose gaze compassion wears heaven’s azure hue!–
O Lover of sorrowful earth!–sky mirrored in her tears’ pure dew!
Kissing the lotus under Thy feet, drinking its nectar-ooze
Our grey and miry-misted world grows irised with rich hues!
Oh, what new-wakening ecstasies
Thou stirst in the rapture of her eyes!
Rent is the eternal curtain of the Night, the death-afraid
Look on Thy aureate aura’s dawn and are immortal made.
Kissing the lotus under Thy feet, drinking its nectar-ooze
Our grey and miry-misted world grows irised with rich hues!
At the touch of Thy lips’ potent spell
Life thrills with Thy Word’s miracle:
Kindle in my heart Thy sun of love,–each ray a passionate song:
My neck engarland with the music of Thy starry throng.
Kissing the lotus under Thy feet, drinking its nectar-ooze
Our grey and miry-misted world grows irised with rich hues! 1
