3d. Rudra in the Saṃjñāniṣṭi
In the Baudhāyana Śrauta Sūtra, it is stated that one who is disliked among the equals, should perform the Saṃjñāniṣṭi. When those people with whom he desires to bring about harmony have assembled, he should offer a cake on eight potsherds to Vasumat-Agni, cooked rice to Rudravat soma, a cake on eleven potsherds to Marutvat-Indra and cooked rice to Ādityavat-Varuṇa.[1] According to Chitrabhanu Sen, “Saṃjñānī (iṣṭi) an iṣṭi for obtaining ‘agreement’ of the relatives of the sacrificer for recognizing him as a chief (Baudhāyana Śrauta Sūtra, XIII.20).”[2]
