This page relates ‘Treatment of Ear and Oral diseases’ found in the study on diseases and remedies found in the Atharvaveda and Charaka-samhita. These texts deal with Ayurveda—the ancient Indian Science of life—which lays down the principles for keeping a sound health involving the use of herbs, roots and leaves. The Atharvaveda refers to one of the four Vedas (ancient Sanskrit texts encompassing all kinds of knowledge and science) containing many details on Ayurveda, which is here taken up for study.

The Atharvaveda discusses the treatment of ear infections. Sunrays treatment is said to be beneficial for otitis[1]. When the rays of the rising sun are taken in the chest, the diseases like ear pain, headache, etc., are destroyed. The Ṛgveda mentions Śigru for ear treatment. Mixing Śigru glue with mustard oil and taking it in the ear cures ear pain[2].

The Atharvaveda mentions the treatment of oral diseases. In the Ṛgveda mentions Hāridrava. Sāyaṇācārya Hāridrava means Haratāla. Pure Haratāla is used to eradicate oral diseases.
