The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

कल्पयन्पालयत्येष नानारूपाणि हेलया ।
तत्रेदंप्रथमत्वेन यदैष ब्रह्मणः पदात् ॥ ३६ ॥

kalpayanpālayatyeṣa nānārūpāṇi helayā |
tatredaṃprathamatvena yadaiṣa brahmaṇaḥ padāt || 36 ||

Thus Brahma became the preserver of many kinds of beings, which he created of his own will from his mind at each stage or kalpa-period; of which he was the first that issued from Brahma himself.
