Verse 2.97
Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 2.97:
तस्मिन्नभेदे भेदानां संसर्ग इव वर्तते ।
रूपं रूपान्तरात्तस्मादनन्यत् प्रविभज्यते ॥ ९७ ॥tasminnabhede bhedānāṃ saṃsarga iva vartate |
rūpaṃ rūpāntarāttasmādananyat pravibhajyate || 97 ||97. In one and the same word (śveta) there is a coalescence of different forms. Though not really different from each other, they are separated (because they convey different meanings.)
Commentary
[In Kā. 96, it is said that śvetaḥ brings two separate expressions to the mind: śvāitaḥ and śvetaḥ, each of which conveys its own meaning. Here we are told that śvetaḥ directly conveys the two meanings.]
It is now shown that, in grammar also, one verbal form sometimes conveys two things.
