The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 3.5.1; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

आत्मोचितैर् विभावाद्यैः पुष्टिं नीता सतां हृदि ।
मधुराख्यो भवेद् भक्ति-रसो’सौ मधुरा रतिः ॥३.५.१॥ātmocitair vibhāvādyaiḥ puṣṭiṃ nītā satāṃ hṛdi |
madhurākhyo bhaved bhakti-raso’sau madhurā ratiḥ ||3.5.1||
English translation
“When madhura-rati is nourished by suitable vibhāva and other elements [of rasa] in the devotees’ hearts, it is called madhura-bhakti-rasa.”
