The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 3.2.97; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation:

यथा नारसिंहे —
चकार मेघे तद्-वर्णे बहु-मान-रतिं नृपः ।
पक्षपातेन तन्-नाम्नि मृगे पद्मे च तद्-दृशि ॥३.२.९७॥

yathā nārasiṃhe —
cakāra meghe tad-varṇe bahu-māna-ratiṃ nṛpaḥ |
pakṣapātena tan-nāmni mṛge padme ca tad-dṛśi ||3.2.97||

English translation

An example of longing before meeting, from Narasiṃha Purāṇa:
“King Ikṣvāku, because of his extreme attachment to the Lord, developed great rati for the black cloud because of its color, the kṛṣṇa-sāra deer because of its name, and the lotus that resembles Kṛṣṇa’s eyes.”
