The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.2.272 ; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

इष्टे स्वारसिकी रागः परमाविष्टता भवेत् ।
तन्-मयी या भवेद् भक्तिः सात्र रागात्मिकोदिता ॥१.२.२७२ ॥

iṣṭe svārasikī rāgaḥ paramāviṣṭatā bhavet |
tan-mayī yā bhaved bhaktiḥ sātra rāgātmikoditā ||1.2.272 ||

English translation

Rāga is defined as spontaneous, deep thirst for the object of love. Bhakti that is impelled exclusively by such a thirst is called rāgātmika-bhakti.”
