The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 1.2.243 ; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. श्री मथुरा-मण्डलं यथा—
तट-भुवि कृत-कान्तिः श्यामला यास् तटिन्याः
स्फुटित-नव-कदम्बालम्बि-कूजद्-द्विरेफा ।
निरवधि-मधुरिम्णा मण्डितेयं कथं मे
मनसि कम् अपि भावं कानन-श्रीस् तनोति ॥१.२.२४३ ॥śrī mathurā-maṇḍalaṃ yathā—
taṭa-bhuvi kṛta-kāntiḥ śyāmalā yās taṭinyāḥ
sphuṭita-nava-kadambālambi-kūjad-dvirephā |
niravadhi-madhurimṇā maṇḍiteyaṃ kathaṃ me
manasi kam api bhāvaṃ kānana-śrīs tanoti ||1.2.243 ||
English translation
The power of residing in the district of Mathurā:
“The splendor of Mathura’s forest, made beautiful by being situated on the bank of the Yamunā, where buzzing bees take shelter of newly blossoming kadamba trees, ornamented with unlimited sweetness, produces and extraordinary state of bhāva in my mind.”
