47. Sama

समं योग्यतया योगो यदि सम्भावितः क्वचित् ॥ १०.१२५cd ॥

samaṃ yogyatayā yogo yadi sambhāvitaḥ kvacit || 10.125cd ||

samam—the ornament called sama (“same”); yogyatayā—on account of suitability; yogaḥ—the connection; yadi—if; sambhāvitaḥ—is conceived; kvacit—at some point in time (or in regard to some topic).

If two things make a fit combination because of the suitability of each one, that is sama (congruity).

ābhirūpyeṇa ced vastunoḥ sambandhaḥ sambhāvyate tadā samam. sad-yoge’sad-yoge ceti dvaidhaṃ tat.

If a connection between two things is conceived because of conformity, that is sama. It has two varieties: A combination of resplendent things and a combination of nonresplendent things.
