(5) [This illustrates kaṣṭa-kalpanā-vibhāva-vyakti (the manifestation of a vibhāva is understood with difficulty):]

manute na sukhaṃ kiñcit tanute moham ulbaṇam |
dhunute dhṛtim etasya kiṃ bhāvi na vibhāvyate ||

He does not think about any kind of happiness, he displays an intense bewilderment, and he shakes off all composure. What will happen to him? It cannot be conceived. (adapted from Kāvya-prakāśa, verse 326)

atrāsukha-mananādīnāṃ karuṇādāv api sambhavāt kāminī-rūpo vibhāvaḥ kaṣṭena gamyate.

In this example, since those states of mind are also possible in karuṇa-rasa (lamentation), a vibhāva, in the form of a beautiful woman (an uddīpana), is understood with difficulty.
