(16) [The following is an example of viruddha-mati-kṛt (it causes a contradictory thought) in a sentence:]
तव गोविन्द भक्तस्य मातरिश्वा ललाग यत् |
पावनो मयि तेनाहं कृतार्थः करुणाम्बुधे ||
tava govinda bhaktasya mātariśvā lalāga yat |
pāvano mayi tenāhaṃ kṛtārthaḥ karuṇāmbudhe ||
tava—Your; govinda—O Govinda; bhaktasya—of the devotee; mātariśvā—the wind; lalāga—adhered; yat—since; pāvanaḥ—purifying (holy); mayi—to me; tena—by it; aham—I; kṛta-arthaḥ—successful (“one’s purpose is done”); karuṇā-ambudhe—in an ocean of mercy.
O Govinda, since a holy breeze from a devotee of Yours has come in contact with me, I have become a success story in the ocean of compassion.
atra vākyaṃ “śvā tava mātari lalāga” iti viruddha-dhī-kṛt.
