अन्न-दान-समं दानं
न भूतं न भविश्यति
देवर्शि-पितृ-भूतानां
तृप्तिर् अन्नेन जायते
anna-dāna-samaṃ dānaṃ
na bhūtaṃ na bhaviśyati
devarśi-pitṛ-bhūtānāṃ
tṛptir annena jāyate
anna-dāna-samam—equal to giving food; dānam—charity; na—not; bhūtam— has been; na—not; bhaviśyati—will be; devarśi-pitṛ-bhūtānām—the demigods, sages, pitās, and bhūtas; tṛptiḥ—satisfaction; annena—by food; jāyate—is born.
English translation of verse 6.19.35:
There never has been nor will there ever be another charity as good as giving food. The demigods, sages, pitās and bhūtas are all pleased by a gift of food.
