The Garga-samhita Verse 4.8.29, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 4 of Chapter 8 (In the Story of the Yajna-sitas, the Glories of Ekadashi) of Canto 4 (madhurya-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

कांस्यं मांसं सुरां क्षौद्रं
तैलं वितथा-भाषणम्
पुष्टि-षष्टि-मसूरांश् च
द्वादश्यां परिवर्जयेत्

kāṃsyaṃ māṃsaṃ surāṃ kṣaudraṃ
tailaṃ vitathā-bhāṣaṇam
puṣṭi-ṣaṣṭi-masūrāṃś ca
dvādaśyāṃ parivarjayet

kāṃsyam—brass sish; māṃsam—flesh; surām—liquor; kṣaudram—honey; tailam—oil; vitathā-bhāṣaṇam—speaking lies; puṣṭi-ṣaṣṭi-masūrāṃḥ—puṣṭi, ṣaṣṭi, and masūrā; ca—and; dvādaśyām—on the dvadasi; parivarjayet—one should avoid.

English translation of verse 4.8.29:

On the dvādaśī one should avoid brass utensils, flesh, liquor, honey, oil, speaking lies, puṣṭi, ṣaṣṭi, and masūra.
