ननाद तेन ब्रह्माण्डं
सप्त-लोकैर् बिलैः सह
विचेलुर् दिग्-गजास् तारा
ऽपतन् भू-खण्ड-मण्डलम्
nanāda tena brahmāṇḍaṃ
sapta-lokair bilaiḥ saha
vicelur dig-gajās tārā
'patan bhū-khaṇḍa-maṇḍalam
nanāda—sounded; tena—by that; brahmāṇḍam—the universe; sapta-lokaiḥ—with seven planetary systems; bilaiḥ—with the spaces between them; saha—with; viceluḥ—trembled; dik—of the directions; gajāḥ—the elephants; tārāḥ—the stars; apatan—fell; bhū-khaṇḍa-maṇḍalam—to the earth.
English translation of verse 1.6.40:
That sound echoed in the universe of seven planetary systems and outer space.
It made the elephants that support the directions tremble and it made the stars fall to the earth.
