कथं चास्मान् न गृह्नासि
भजन्तीर् मैथिलीः सतीः
अर्धाङ्गी यज्ञ-कालेषु
सततं कार्य-साधिनीः

kathaṃ cāsmān na gṛhnāsi
bhajantīr maithilīḥ satīḥ
ardhāṅgī yajña-kāleṣu
satataṃ kārya-sādhinīḥ

katham—why?; ca—and; asmān—us; na—not; gṛhnāsi—You accept; bhajantīḥ—the worshiping; maithilīḥ satīḥchaste women of Mithilā; ardhahalf; aṅgīYour body; yajñaof the yajña; kāleṣu—at the times; satatam—always; kārya-sādhinīḥ—performing duties with You.

English translation of verse 1.4.64:

. . . "Why do You not accept us? We are all Sītā, the chaste daughter of the king of Mithilā. We are half of Your body. At the time of the yajñas we were Your assistants.
