इति ताभ्यो वरं दत्वा
श्री-रामः करुणा-निधिः
कोषलान् प्रययौ धन्वी
तेजसा जित-भार्गवः
iti tābhyo varaṃ datvā
śrī-rāmaḥ karuṇā-nidhiḥ
koṣalān prayayau dhanvī
tejasā jita-bhārgavaḥ
iti—thus; tābhyaḥ—to them; varam—benediction; datvā—giving; śrī-rāmaḥ—Śrī Rāma; karuṇā—of mercy; nidhiḥ—an ocean; koṣalān—to the country of the Koṣalas; prayayau—went; dhanvī—with His bow; tejasā—with power; jita—conquered; bhārgavaḥ—Paraśurāma.
English translation of verse 1.4.40:
After giving them this benediction, Śrī Rāma, who is an ocean of mercy and an expert bowman, with His great prowess defeated Paraśurāma and then went to the country of the Koṣalas.
