अंशांशस् तु मरीच्य्-आदिर्
अंशा ब्रह्मादयस् तथा
कलाः कपिल-कूर्माद्या
आवेशा भार्गवादयः
aṃśāṃśas tu marīcy-ādir
aṃśā brahmādayas tathā
kalāḥ kapila-kūrmādyā
āveśā bhārgavādayaḥ
aṃśāṃśaḥ—aṃśāṃśa; tu—indeed; marīci—with Marīci; ādiḥ—beginning; aṃśā—aṃśā; brahma—with Brahmā; ādayaḥ—beginning; tathā—so; kalāḥ—kalā; kapila—with Kapila; kūrma—and Kūrma; ādyāḥ—beginning; āveśāḥ—aveśa; bhārgava—with Paraśurāma; ādayaḥ—beginning.
English translation of verse 1.1.17:
The aṃśāṃśa incarnations begin with Marīci, the aṃśā incarnations begin with Brahmā, the kalā incarnations begin with Kapila and Kūrmā, and the āveśa incarnations begin with Paraśurāma.
