Description of the photo

A graceful sculpture but a little unclear due to erosion with time. The girl is standing with one foot–the left foot in back Svastika. The right foot is straight. Right Kati is in slight Udvahita. Weight is balanced on right foot. The left Pada is placed on toes with heel raised in Agaratala. The Urah is in Sama and Parsva is unbent. The Siras is also in Sama. Right hand is in Uru Hasta and the left hand is holding a plant creeper maybe.We cannot identify any Cari or Karana.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
