Description of the photo
The main figure on this pillar is that of a dancing girl or a Dasi. She is standing in Avahittha Sthana, her Siras is in Ancitam Parsva is in Nata on left and Samunnata on right. Urah [uras] is in Sama, her Kati is in Udvahita on the left side, her right hand is holding a Camaram [Camara] and her left hand is in Uru Hasta. Left leg is straight and unbent and her Pada are in Sama.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
