This is a scene from Sita Kalyanam [Kalyana]. We can see Lord Rama whose left hand is holding Sita’s right hand. Sita Devi’s left hand is holding a Padma. Janaka Maharaja who is on the right side of Rama is holding a Kalasa in his hand to do Kanyadanam [Kanyadana].

Vasistha Muni is holding a Kamandalu in his left hand and his right hand is in his chest in Musti.Vasistha, Janaka and Sri Rama are standing in Ayata Sthana whereas Sita Devi is standing in Avahittha Sthana.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
