Manmatha is the God of love and his wife is Rati. Manmatha carried a bow made of sugarcane and arrows made of the five flowers–Aravindam, Asokam, Cutam, Navamallika and Nilotpala.

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning).
