Description of the photo
He is riding a horse and is carrying a sword. Below him is depicted an Alankara lady. She is standing with a front Svastika (right leg is crossed across the left). Her left hand is kept on her Uru. Her right hand is holding a creeper. On the inner side of the pillar at the bottom is a Dvarapalaka with a Yali behind him. On the upper side is shown a woman Tapasvin meditating. The other lady is fanning her with a Camaram [Camara].

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
