This again looks like a Yogic posture, with the dancer in a squatting position. The right leg is pressed by the left hand. The left hand is near the chest ready to perform a Recita. The left leg is a little raised as if the dancer is about to change position. The torso is bent to the right and so is the head. It is difficult to identify the Karana

Kumbakonam is considered as one of the holiest places in Tamil Nadu and is known for its temples and Mathas (monasteries which were centres of Brahmanical learning). These photographs depict the connection between the sculptures in the temples and Natya Shastra and related texts dealing with iconography.
