Lace Making — Galle is the home for the delicate "Beeralu Lace" or more popularly called Pillow Lace. It is a traditional cottage industry. The technique is handed down from mother to daughter and older family members to their children. "Beeralu" is made on a hand padded "Rolling Pin" fixed in the center of a large square cushion. A pattern in stiff paper is attached to the top of the roll lightly outlined in pencil pricked with pins, which serves a s a guide. The motifs include various floral ornamentation viz, Jesmin, Chrysanthemum, Lotus, Animals, Butterflies and other flies bees, wasps.
