Vicaya (विचय) refers to the “examination (of the instruction)” (of the Jina), according to the 11th century Jñānārṇava, a treatise on Jain Yoga in roughly 2200 Sanskrit verses composed by Śubhacandra.—Accordingly, “Examination of the instruction (ājñā-vicaya) [of the Jina] is considered to be when, through the application of the instruction of the omniscient one (i.e. the Jina), [the meditator] reflects upon the true state of objects laid down in his doctrine”.
