Source: Shodhganga: Drumavichitrikarnam—Plant mutagenesis in ancient IndiaSādhubīja (साधुबीज) refers to “healthy seeds” (suitable for cultivation), according to the Vṛkṣāyurveda by Sūrapāla (1000 CE): an encyclopedic work dealing with the study of trees and the principles of ancient Indian agriculture.—Accordingly, “Benincasa hispida, Solanum melongena, Trichosanthes dioica, etc. produced from healthy seeds (sādhubīja) cultivated with marrow of a female boar and also nourished with the sprinkling of Acorus calamus always produce seedless fruits (abīja)”.
