Source: archive.org: Puranic EncyclopediaṚkṣavaṃśa (ऋक्षवंश) refers to royal dynasty (vaṃśa) of kings (rājan) descended from the Candravaṃśa (lunar dynasty).—Ṛkṣa begot Saṃvaraṇa and from Saṃvaraṇa was born Kuru. From Kuru originated the Kuru dynasty. Kuru had four sons: (Ā) Parīkṣit, (A2) Sudhanus, (A3) Jahnu and (A4) Niṣāda. Out of the four Sudhanus and Jahnu became family progenitors.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
