pūḍa (पूड).—f Powder. 2 n Case or frame (as of kettledrums &c.) 3 m n A compartment, division, partition, pocket, cell, drawer (of cases and stands, bags, purses, boxes). 4 n A half, either the lid or the bottom (as of snuff-boxes, cunāḷa or limeholders &c.) 5 A case of ratan, bamboo-blades, palm-leaves &c; to hold the betel-leaf. 6 A member of a double tent; āntalēṃ pūḍa The shell; bāhēra- lēṃ pūḍa The fly. 7 A leather or skin cover (of a mṛdaṅga, tabalā, ḍhōla &c.); one of the two or more skin-folds: hence, laxly, a drum-head. Hence the adjectives ēkapuḍī, dupuḍī, tipuḍī One-skinned &c. pūḍa phōḍaṇēṃ To open a closed bale; to disclose a secret matter: pūḍa phuṭaṇēṃ or bāhēra yēṇēṃ To be opened or disclosed.
