pōvatēṃ (पोवतें).—n (pavitra S) The string (composed of four or five cotton threads) cast around an idol in the month of Shrawaṇ (and in other months): also the new jānavēṃ taken in this month: also holy threads worn by Brahmans and others around the neck, arm, wrist &c. on many occasions whether of utsāha or of vrata. 2 A neck-ornament of beads (of glass, gold, or stone) or of pearls, worn by females. 3 A collection of yellow threads worn around the neck by Shudra-males at weddings.
