Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionaryparavaṇṭa (परवंट).—m (In poetry paravaṇṭā m) The padara or miṛyā of the sāḍī of little girls brought up and tucked in after passing over the waistband on the outside, forming across the umbilical region a lengthwise prominence. This grave operation is termed paravaṇṭa kāḍhaṇēṃ, and is performed about the age of five, entitling the little maiden to the designation of paravaṇṭakarīṇa or -karī or paravaṇṭī, which, on her attaining the age of ten, merges into padarakarīṇa or padarakara A duly-attired woman.
