Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraPādarecaka (पादरेचक, “movement of the foot”) refers to the first of the four recakas (‘ornamental movement’, movement of a limb), according to the Nāṭyaśāstra 4.246-252. The instructions for the pāda-recaka is as follows, “Going from side to side with wavering feet or with differently moving feet, is called their Recaka.”.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
