Mulching (with hay) was one of the technologies known to ancient Indian agriculturists, which presents a safe technology and methodology regarding organic agriculture, according to treatises (such as the Vrikshayurveda). One such technology was to hasten the flowering of jasmine: Mulching with hay can hasten the flowering of jasmine, according to Lokopakāra. This can be of great use to the perfume industry, where jasmine has a high demand due to its fragrance.
