Māṃga (मांग):—(nf) demand; requirement, requisition; indent; the line of demarcation in parting and setting the locks of hair on the head; —[aura pūrti] demand and supply; -[coṭī/paṭṭī] (a woman’s) parting and brading the locks of hair; make-up; •[karanā] to make (oneself) up, to prank; ~[jalī] a widow (an abusive term used by a woman for another); —[ṭīkā] an ornament for the forehead; -[patra] an indent; charter of demands; —[ujaḍanā/luṭanā] to be widowed, to be deprived of the protection of the husband; —[bharanā] to fill the [māṃga] of a woman with vermilion (esp. done by the husband. The process signifies the status of a [suhāgina] amongst Hindu women).
