khānacōra (खानचोर).—c Some, affirming this word to be corrupted from khāṇacōra, explain it (Thief from a mine or race of thieves) An adroit or arrant thief. Some, deriving it from House, & cōra, explain it Domestic thief, or a quiet and stealthy breaker into a house in order to thieve. Some, holding it to be mispronounced and then miswritten for khāndacōra or khāṇacōra, declare it to be Digging thief, a breaker into a house by digging through the wall. All these acceptations are common.
