Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionaryjirāitī (जिराइती) [or जिरायती, jirāyatī].—a also jirāīta or jirā- yata a (jirāīta) Relating to fields or their crops--the tax, the survey &c.; as jirāitī vasūla, jirāitī pāhaṇī. 2 Appropriated to or fit for agriculture--land. 3 Raised on arable land. 4 Applied facetiously to an uparī, or a Muhammadan, or a foreigner walking according to the usages of the Hindu people amongst whom he sojourns. Contrad. from bāgāyatī employed to designate the asala or aborigines. jirāyatī gāṃva A village having no garden grounds or no rabbī crops.
