Note. jiṅkaṇēṃ is constantly affirmed to mean To be defeated or conquered; to lose &c.; as well as To defeat and to win. Let the student understand that this meaning arises from that elliptical use common to almost all the transitive verbs, by which they are made to convey the sense of the Passive voice.
