Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyIlsā (इल्सा) refers to a type fish, also known as ilsāmatsya, according to the Dhanvantari-nighaṇṭu. In the science of Āyurveda (ancient Indian healthcare), the meat of a fish (matsya) is used and prepared in balanced diets. Ilsā fish is sweet, oily, tasty, light, useful to reduce acidity and increase mucus. The Dhanvantarinighaṇṭu is a 10th-century medicinal thesaurus (nighaṇṭu) containing characteristics and synonyms of various herbal plants and minerals.
Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
