Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraHastarecaka (हस्तरेचक, “movement of the hand”) refers to the third of the four recakas (‘ornamental movement’, movement of a limb), according to the Nāṭyaśāstra 4.246-252. The instructions for the hasta-recaka is as follows, “Raising up, throwing out, putting forward, turning round and drawing back of the hand is called its Recaka.”.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
