Gopāladāsa (गोपालदास) is the father of Gaṅgādāsa (beg. of 16th century): the exponent on metrics who has contributed to Sanskrit prosody through his marvelous work Chandomañjarī, a short tract on the science of prosody. Gaṅgādāsa is the son of Gopāladāsa (a physician by profession) and Santoṣā. He also mentions about his preceptor namely Puruṣottama Bhaṭṭa, the author of Chandogovinda (another work on Chanda, which is lost to us) in the first chapter of Candomañjarī.

Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
