Garīyastva (गरीयस्त्व).—Greater effort or prolixity of expression which is looked upon as a fault in connection with grammar-works of the sūtra type where every care is taken to make the expression as brief as possible; cf. अर्धमात्रालाघवेन पुत्रोत्सवं मन्यन्ते वैयाकरणाः (ardhamātrālāghavena putrotsavaṃ manyante vaiyākaraṇāḥ) Par. Śek. Pari. 122. The word गौरव (gaurava) is often used for गरीयस्त्व (garīyastva).
