Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationGaṇodita (गणोदित) refers to “that which is mentioned by the Gaṇas” (of Śiva), according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.4.14 (“The Gaṇas argue and wrangle”).—Accordingly, after Gaṇeśa spoke to Śiva’s attendants: “The Gaṇas when decisively told by Gaṇeśa became ashamed. They went to Śiva. After bowing to him they stood in front of him. Then they acquainted him with that news of wonderful nature. They joined their palms, stooped their shoulders, eulogised Śiva and stood in front of him. On hearing the detailed news mentioned by his Gaṇas (gaṇodita), Śiva replied following the worldly conventions.—[...]”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
