Ēṭṭai (ஏட்டை) noun cf. jyēṣṭhā.

1. Poverty, necessitous state or condition; தரித்திரம். ஏட் டைப் பருவத்து மிற்பிறந்தார் செய்வன [tharithiram. ed daip paruvathu mirpiranthar seyvana] (நாலடியார் [naladiyar], 358).

2. Drooping, pining; இளைப்பு. வெண்ணிணத்த செந் தடிக்கே யேட்டைப்பட்டு [ilaippu. venninatha sendamizhppathirigai thadikke yettaippattu] (சீவகசிந்தாமணி [sivagasindamani] 1552).
