Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraDeśānurūpā (देशानुरूपा) refers to one of the eighteen jātis: rules used in the playing of drums (puṣkara) [with reference to Mṛdaṅga, Paṇava and Dardura] according to the Nāṭyaśāstra chapter 33. Accordingly, “the deśānurūpā-jāti played in the aḍḍitā-mārga, is used in the Erotic Sentiment involving the enjoyment of love (śṛṅgāra). It should be performed in a slow tempo. Mī mathi thamabhū tthi kimā will be the syllables in deśānurūpā-jāti. It is to be used in the best Erotic Sentiment of women”.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects.
